The Fruit Tree Project – Kesennuma, Day 2Posted: May 9, 2011
April 30, 2011 – Today was the first day we picked up from our Kesennuma source and it all went smoothly! It was pretty simple, we just ordered the night before and picked it up as early as we wanted the next morning. Today, we picked up from a shop about 30 minutes out of central Kesennuma, but tomorrow we plan to head to the warehouse in the city which will save us some time. Today we delivered 1,092 bananas and 576 oranges, which was enough to cover the ~1,500 people we are now providing for. The rest of the day was spent planning the schedule and our budget for the rest of the week. We are also trying to rotate which shelters get what fruits everyday, which takes some careful planning as well. All of these factors depend on the fruit wholesaler, so our plans may end up changing, depending on what they have on that day.
